It’s been anything but the memorable season Texas A&M fans were expecting following their first College Football Playoff appearance last year, as the Aggies have stumbled to a 4-3 overall record and are eyeing a rough trip to Tuscaloosa this week.
And while Mike Elko‘s squad has been taking losses on the field, TAMU has also suffered off of it as well.
The Aggies’ highly touted recruiting class has taken a handful of hits in recent weeks, and another domino fell Wednesday in the form of 4-star linebacker Aston Whiteside flipping his commitment from Texas A&M to Miami, according to reporting from Hayes Fawcett.
Whiteside had taken a visit to College Station in late May and committed shortly after in June, but the 6-foot-2, 215 pound defender opted to flip and join Mario Cristobal’s Hurricanes.
Also holding offers from the likes of Florida State, Michigan, Texas Tech and Kentucky, Whiteside joins a Miami 2027 class that ranks second in the nation according to 247Sports, with his flip allowing the Canes to make up some ground on TAMU in the top spot.
Elko now has just 2 linebackers as part of his 2027 class, although the group already consists of 24 total commitments at this stage in the cycle.
