The Texas Longhorns earned a critical commitment in the 2027 class, landing a pledge from 3-star wide receiver Briceson Thrower.
The North Forney (Texas) High School product chose Texas over offers from Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Ohio State and Illinois. Thrower is a 3-star prospect according to the 247 Sports Composite rankings and ranks as the 57th-best wide receiver in the country.
The 6-foot-3 Thrower finished his junior season at North Forney with 32 receptions for 529 yards and five touchdowns โ averaging 16.5 yards per catch. Thrower also runs track for North Forney, recording a 10.76-second 100-meter time as a junior and a 23.31-second 200-meter time as a sophomore.
Thrower is the 12th public commitment for Texas in the 2027 cycle and will join 4-star Easton Royal as a freshman in the wide receivers room.
Texas went 10-3 overall and 6-2 in SEC play in 2025, missing out on a College Football Playoff berth despite starting the season as the No. 1 team in the country. The Longhornsโ losses came to then-No. 3 Ohio State, then-No. 5 Georgia and unranked Florida, and Texas closed the season with a 41-27 victory over Michigan in the Citrus Bowl.
Texas kicks off the 2026 season at home against Texas State (3:30 pm ET, ESPN) before taking on Ohio State at home on Sept. 12 (7:30 pm ET, ABC). The Longhorns begin SEC play Sept. 26 at Tennessee.
