Texas fends off SEC, ACC schools to land commitment from 5-star in-state pass rusher

Texas kept one of the Lone Star State’s best in the state as the Longhorns landed a huge pickup from a 5-star pass rusher.

Colin Simmons, a 6-foot-3 and 225-pound recruit from Duncanville, Texas, is ranked the No. 8 prospect in the country, according to the 247Sports Composite. He’s the No. 1-ranked EDGE rusher and top-ranked player in the state of Texas.

Simmons announced a commitment to the Longhorns after his finalists were LSU and Miami. He put on a pair of hats at a ceremony at his school before he settled on the Longhorns.

Simmons has a reported 45 offers and was recruited to Texas by Jeff Banks.

Simmons has already received a slew of honors in his career. He led Duncanville to a 15-0 record and the Class 6A-Division I state championship. He was named the Dallas Morning News Defensive Player of the Year, and his 22.5 sacks broke the Duncanville school record.

The Texas Sportswriters Association also named him the Class 6A Defensive Player of the Year.
