The Texas Longhorns are staring down the barrel of a three-game losing streak with Trinidad Chambliss and the Ole Miss Rebels coming to town this weekend. Their odds of winning are already being hampered by the likely absence of defensive end Colin Simmons, who was listed as doubtful on the SEC’s initial availability report with a high ankle sprain. Unfortunately, their potential replacement for Simmons is dealing with the same ailment.

According to OrangeBloods’ Anwar Richardson, freshman edge rusher Richard Wesley will not only miss the Ole Miss contest due to a high ankle sprain of his own, but could be out the rest of the year with the injury.

“There are concerns behind the scenes that [Wesley] could miss the remainder of the regular season,” Richardson wrote. “For now, the focus is on treatment in hopes of a speedy recovery.”

Wesley, a Chatsworth, CA native, was the No. 32 overall player for the 2026 recruiting class, according to 247Sports Composite rankings. He slotted as the No. 6 edge rusher and No. 5 player from California in the class, per the same metric.

Through four appearances this season, Wesley has made seven tackles for the Longhorns. Zina Umeozulu, Lance Jackson and Colton Vasek will handle the bulk of responsibilities on the edge against the Rebels.
