Texas takes advantage of massive special teams mistake, ties game vs. Washington
Texas appeared to be in some trouble midway through the 2nd quarter of its Sugar Bowl matchup against Washington.
Trailing 14-7, Texas punted the ball back to Washington with more than 10 minutes left in the 2nd quarter. The Huskies had a chance to increase their lead to double-digits with another long touchdown drive.
Instead, Washington muffed the punt and gave possession back to the Longhorns. Texas took full advantage as defensive tackle Byron Murphy punched it in to tie the game just a few plays later.
Here’s video of Murphy’s TD, which tied the game at 14-14:

Although Murphy is a regular on the defensive side of the ball for the Longhorns, he does have a role in Texas’ short-yardage game on offense. This was Murphy’s 2nd touchdown run of the season.
Texas is trying to reach the national championship game for the first time since its loss to Alabama in at the end of the 2009 season. The Longhorns are playing in their 1st semifinal game of the College Football Playoff era.
The winner of this game will face Michigan in the national championship game on Jan. 8.
