Tom Herman’s seat heating up? Texas fans react to losing pair of elite legacy recruits to Alabama
Tom Herman arrived in Austin with a ton of hype after serving as the offensive coordinator for Ohio State’s 2014 national championship team and leading Houston to a 22-4 mark in his two years serving as head coach of the Cougars.
The Texas fans that were already questioning the progress of Herman’s program after he has led the Longhorns to a 25-15 overall and 17-10 in Big 12 play during his three seasons in Austin now have more ammunition when it comes to calling out the head coach thanks to a pair of commitments that occurred on Friday.
If you missed the news, 5-star offensive tackle Tommy Brockermeyer (the nation’s No. 1 offensive tackle prospect) and his twin brother, four-star James Brockermeyer (the nation’s No. 1 center prospect) both announced their commitments to Alabama on Friday. The brothers picked Alabama over Texas despite the fact their older brother goes to Texas and their father played for the Longhorns and was an All-American in Austin and their grandfather also played for the Longhorns.
Simply put, these were two prospects Herman could not afford to miss out on. As if losing out both players for the reasons mentioned above wasn’t bad enough, one of the biggest issues holding the Texas program back in recent seasons has been the play of the program’s offensive line.
Managing to add the Brockermeyer twins could have helped solve those issues in a hurry, but instead, they chose to help do their part to extend Alabama’s football dynasty under Nick Saban.
Following their commitments, Texas fans were naturally upset.

Shouldn't be a surprise. They want to go to the NFL and that train don't run through Austin.

There is no way to spin this other than a big disappointment. Unfortunately we don’t have the NFL pedigree right now. Plain and simple. Good luck to them.
