Texas Tech is undefeated no more. The Red Raiders, following an excellent start to the season, now sit at 6-1 on the year after following to Arizona State. It’s worth noting, however, that the Red Raiders were without start QB Behren Morton, who didn’t practice all week due to an injury.
Will Hammond got the start in his place, and despite showing out a few weeks ago against Utah, he didn’t have his best outing against the Sun Devils. till, he put Texas Tech in a position to win, throwing back to-back touchdowns before Arizona State responded with a score of their own with 30 seconds remaining. The result? A 26-22 Arizona State win.
This result is very unusual for a Texas Tech team that has decimated opponents thus far this season. No opponent had kept it within 24 points against the Red Raiders this season, but the Sun Devils defense was able to extinguish what has been one of the hottest offenses in the sport this season. With Morton out, it’ll be interesting to see how the CFP committee weighs this loss later in the season — that is, assuming Texas Tech keeps winning when Morton is back.
Here are some reactions from social media following Texas Tech’s loss on Saturday:
Ethan Stone is a Tennessee graduate and loves all things college football and college basketball. Firm believer in fouling while up 3.
