Top RB prospect announces he will not visit Texas A&M this weekend

Texas A&M’s very bad week continues.

The recruiting game can be very fickle. One day you’re the hot program and every five-star wants to be there and the next day you have a bad home loss and a top running back recruit public cancels a rumored visit.

Reuben Owens, a composite five-star running back from El Campo, Texas, has been committed to Louisville for a few months. But verbal commitments are like handshake agreements, they are only as valuable as the person doing the handshaking.

So it’s no surprise that Texas A&M has been on Owens hard. He’s an in-state prospect and rated as the top running back in the country. Oklahoma and Texas are all trying to flip Owens too.

Owens had been rumored to visit Texas A&M this weekend when the Aggies host Miami. It made perfect sense as a visit because the top prospects tend to go to the best games.

But now that visit won’t happen. Why not? It’s it because of the loss to App State like SBNation is suggesting ? It is simply because his Dad said he couldn’t make it like Steve Wiltfong from 247Sports is reporting? Or was Owens never going to begin with like Andrew Nemec from Scorebook Live reports?

In regards to his visit Owens’ Instagram post said “I’m not going no more”, which suggests a visit was planned.

Now the question is where does A&M stand with Owens from here. Is he still planning to visit the school down the road. Is he re-affirming his commitment to Louisville? What about Texas and Oklahoma?

But it’s not all bad for Texas A&M. Many top recruits will be in attendance Saturday, even if College Gameday has decided to go elsewhere.
