Trust the process: Rece Davis insists CFP rankings will ‘self-correct’ across coming weeks
The College Football Playoff committee is catching flak from every direction this morning. Whether it’s the placement of Notre Dame at No. 11, Alabama at No. 5 or seemingly inconsistent application of head-to-head results, people have plenty to gripe about.
As the host of the CFP ranking show, Rece Davis knows the issues better than anyone. He could have made a massive deal about what unfolded on Tuesday night during his appearance on Wednesday’s episode of The Pat McAfee Show. Instead, he preached patience.
“The committee does get… a bit of a mulligan, because 10 of these top 14 teams play each other,” Davis said. “Some of it’s going to sort itself out… a lot of this is going to self-correct over time.”

Notre Dame’s clash with Miami now sets up as a do-or-die affair for the Fighting Irish. If head coach Marcus Freeman’s team drops that game, it’s hard to believe they’ll make the CFP due to the way the committee treated strength of schedule. The same could be said for BYU in its Holy War matchup against Utah.
Elsewhere, the SEC will establish some semblance of a hierarchy when Kentucky-Tennessee, Alabama-LSU and Texas-Missouri go final. The Volunteers, the second team out of the field if the rankings were final, can jump up the board by beating the Wildcats at 6:15 p.m. ET on Saturday (ESPN).
