Great news from Miami as the Dolphins’ top first-round pick and the new face of the franchise has been cleared to hit the practice field when the team hits the field for the first time in the coming days.

According to Dolphins coach Brian Flores, Tua Tagovailoa is ready to go.

When there’s practice, you’ll see him out there,” Flores said on Wednesday.

One thing made clear, however, was that nothing would be handed to Tagovailoa by the Dolphins — despite the fact the franchise selected the record-setting signal-caller from Alabama with the No. 5 overall selection in the 2020 NFL Draft.

“You always want competition … There’s no jobs that are going to be handed out,” Flores added.

Could that just be coach-speak? Sure, but it’s important to note the Dolphins hired Chan Gailey to be the team’s offensive coordinator this offseason and the team’s incumbent starting quarterback, Ryan Fitzpatrick, has played several seasons in Gailey’s offense.

Overcoming Fitzpatrick’s experience would be tough enough for Tagovailoa during a normal offseason but, as we all know, has been anything but a normal offseason for NFL teams due to the coronavirus.

How realistic is it to assume Tagovailoa can beat out Fitzpatrick right out of the gate?

Flores did his best to pump the brakes on the hype for his rookie quarterback during his Wednesday media session.
