Ty Simpson had a very good season for Alabama last year, as he was in the running for the Heisman Trophy award for much of the season while helping the Crimson Tide make it to the College Football Playoff quarterfinals before losing to Indiana.

In his first nine games, he threw for 21 touchdowns and only one interception. However, in his final six games, that ratio was only six touchdowns to four interceptions. On Monday, it was reported by NFL insider Tom Pelissero that a medical issue caused Simpson to lose significant weight late in the season.

“He was also dealing with a severe case of gastritis toward the tail end of the season,” Pelissero said. “He was weighing in the 190’s by the time they got to the Rose Bowl. I’m told he is now back up to 215, and he is going to look the part. All of the scouts I have talked to said that in this type of session, Ty Simpson should really stand out and help himself.”

The 2026 NFL Draft class was supposed to be loaded at the quarterback position, but that hasn’t been the case. Many of those guys didn’t have the season expected during the 2025 college football season, and Oregon quarterback Dante Moore decided to go back to Eugene.

Fernando Mendoza is expected to be the No. 1 pick to the Las Vegas Raiders, but there are still plenty of teams that need help at the quarterback position. If Simpson is back fully healthy looking like the quarterback in September and October, then he has a chance to hear his name called in the first round.

Considering the way quarterback prospects are valued, could Simpson potentially go top-10? Prediction market Kalshi is offering wager action to fans who want to predict where Simpson is taken in the draft:
