TyTy Washington’s NBA journey continues.

The former Kentucky guard was waived by the Oklahoma City Thunder on Friday afternoon.

Washington has had a whirlwind offseason in just his 2nd year in the NBA. He was previously traded by the Houston Rockets to the Atlanta Hawks. Then, in a separate deal, the Hawks dealt him (and draft compensation) to the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Oklahoma City’s roster situation meant that Washington being waived or traded was always the most likely outcome. The Thunder are well over the NBA’s roster limit of 15 players and have numerous other options at guard.

Those options include ex-Wildcats Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Cason Wallace, who was picked No. 10 overall by OKC in the most recent NBA Draft.

Despite his active offseason, Washington is widely expected to find another home in the NBA prior to the start of the 2023-24 campaign. Last year as a rookie in Houston, he averaged 4.7 points and 1.5 assists per contest in 31 games. He spent most of last season playing in the G-League.

Washington was a 1st round pick by the Rockets in the 2022 NBA Draft.
