University of Virginia President Jim Ryan announced more tragic news about a fatal shooting involving football players.

Ryan confirmed that former player Christopher Darnell Jones Jr. was the shooter, and that Devin Chandler, Lavel Davis Jr. and D’Sean Perry were fatally shot. Two others were wounded, one in critical condition, one in good condition, according to Mike Barber of the Richmond Times-Dispatch.

“This is a sad, tragic and shocking day for our community,” Ryan said.

Classes were already canceled on Monday, and Ryan added that the men’s basketball game scheduled for Monday night against Northern Iowa has been canceled.

Authorities reported late Monday morning that Jones was taken into custody following the Sunday night shooting, which happened on a bus of students who were returning from an off-campus trip, the Associated Press reported.

Ryan wrote a letter to the campus community that was posted on social media early Monday morning.
