UNLV has entered a new era for the football program, as Dan Mullen is the new coach. Mullen, who used to be the Florida head coach as well as an analyst at ESPN, was a big-time acquisition for the Rebels program.

The team wasn’t supposed to play in Week 0 against Idaho State, as the two teams were originally scheduled to face off on Sept. 13. However, the Rebels play their game at Allegiant Stadium, which is also the home of the Las Vegas Raiders. There was a scheduling conflict on that night, as there is a mega-boxing match between Canelo Alvarez and Bud Crawford was also scheduled.

So, the two sides reached an agreement that paid UNLV $1.75 million to move their season opener. Not only were they paid the money, but the athletic department received 100 tickets to the fight, as well as a suite to the boxing match that will be on Netflix.

With the game being in Week 0, this is the earliest game that the Rebels have played in program history. They will now play only two games in September. UNLV will host UCLA on Sept.6, and then hit the road to take on Miami (OH) on Sept. 20.
