Urban Meyer knows good quarterback talent when he sees it and the former three-time national champion coach sees it in Florida’s Anthony Richardson.

But he knew it from the start because former Gators coach Dan Mullen also saw it Richardson.

From a report by Nick de la Torre with On3 sports.

“Dan Mullen was obviously a great friend, I worked with him for many years. We talked about Richardson, the great quarterback, No. 15 for Florida. He said he’s legitimately a 4.3 [40-yard dash] guy that’s 240 pounds and can throw the ball 85 yards. The most talented player — and he coached Cam Newton, says he’s bigger, faster. I said, ‘Than Cam Newton?’ He said, ‘Yeah.’ And I saw it. That 50-yard run was magical. They’ve got a new staff, new energy down there. I think Florida’s going to have a great run.”

Richardson rushed for over 100 yards and three touchdowns in the Gators’ 29-26 win over Utah in Week 1. His efforts earned him SEC Offensive Player of the Week honors.

It doesn’t get easier for Florida this week. Ranked No. 12, the Gators will host No. 20 Kentucky. At one time Florida held a 31-game win streak over the Wildcats, but the programs jhave split the last four games of the series.

“Coach Stoops at Kentucky has does a heck of a job,” Meyer said. “But I think Florida, to do what they did and the way they did it, I don’t want to say they’re real and they’re back, but this is going to be a good team as they continue to develop.”
