Vanderbilt landed its latest commitment from a running back out of the north Chicago suburbs in 3-star Maurice Edwards of Gurnee, Illinois (Warren Township).
Maurice Edwards is a 6 foot and 198-pound 3-star prospect who is rated the No. 75 running back in the country for 2022 by the 247Sports Composite, along with being the No. 18 player in the state of Illinois.
“I want to start off by thanking God, my family, friends, and teammates for being with me on this journey,” Edwards wrote on Twitter. “First and foremost, to my parents, thank you for being with me every step of the way. … To all the schools that recruited me, thank you. With that being said, I would like to announce my commitment to Vanderbilt University.”
Edwards is currently on his official visit to Vanderbilt and is the first visitor to commit on the spot this June. He recently ran a 4.41-second 40-yard dash at Vanderbilt’s camp and received an offer afterward, Vandy247 reported. Vanderbilt remains No. 42 in the industry-generated 247Sports Composite team rankings for the 2022 class.
Edwards reportedly flew under the radar because he moved from Carmel, Indiana to Illinois, and Illinois played its high school football season in the spring.
Vanderbilt’s class is ranked No. 42 in the country, and No. 11 in the SEC. Edwards is the ninth commitment of the class.
