The Tennessee Titans drafted former Alabama LB Rashaan Evans in the first round of this year’s draft, and he’ll step in as an immediate contributor in new coach Mike Vrabel’s system.
Evans is projected to start alongside veteran LB Wesley Woodyard, and instead of feeling competitive about the rookie stepping in immediately, Woodyard is taking on a mentorship role.
Woodyard told Tennessean.com that he is going to make sure Evans is doing everything he can to maximize his potential:
โThatโs one thing that my specialty is, mentoring young guys, making sure that I can pull the best out of them,โ Woodyard said. โI really wonโt get to know much about him until heโs on the campus with us working out. Iโm just excited to have a new guy in the room with us.โ
The Titans have invested a lot in their defense the past couple of years, and after making the playoffs last season, they’re gunning for another postseason berth in 2018.
If Evans can become a solid player right away, the Titans’ defense should improve once again this fall.
