The Carolina Panthers made a surprising move at the trade deadline last week, dealing WR Kelvin Benjamin to the Buffalo Bills.

However, the team rebounded nicely to win Sunday’s game against the Atlanta Falcons 20-17, with star QB Cam Newton leading the way. The former Auburn star threw for 137 yards and ran for 86 more, adding a touchdown on the ground.

After the game, though, Newton made a bizarre reference to the Titanic. In the video below (shared by @JoshFox46 on Twitter), he says losing Benjamin was tough, but “the Titanic still has to go:”

Obviously, the Titanic didn’t continue to go, sinking shortly after striking an iceberg on its maiden voyage back in 1912. Granted, it can be tough to come up with other famous ships, especially since ships tend to only become famous after sinking, but perhaps Newton should have kept his comments more general.

The comparison to the Titanic is an ominous one for the Panthers, who will now try to avoid sinking lower in the NFC South standings during the second half of their 2017 season. Currently at 6-3, the Panthers are only half a game behind the 6-2 New Orleans Saints in the division.
