During Auburn’s Final Fun run, Tigers great Charles Barkley has been a public face of the program embracing the role of superfan as a studio analyst of the multi-network March Madness coverage as well as various other TV appearances.
Outspoken, quick-witted and unfiltered, Barkley frequently brings the laughs, but he can also get serious. CBS Sports Network shared a video of his locker room address to Bruce Pearl’s squad ahead of the Final Four clash against No. 1-seed Virginia. Barkley had two strong messages for the Tigers: championships define you forever and Auburn has already done the hard part.
He points out that despite having his jersey number retired, the fact that he never won a ring stays with him forever. He also believes that getting to the Final Four, in Auburn’s case beating North Carolina and Kentucky back-to-back, is harder than winning two more games.
Check out the clip below:
“My number’s retired at Auburn, my number’s retired in Philadelphia, my number’s retired with the Phoenix Suns. But I never won a championship. I have to live with that forever. You guys gotta chance to do that.”
