Coaching carousel season is starting up again, and many expect USC coach Clay Helton to be fired following a disappointing season.
One person connected to the potential USC opening is current Penn State coach James Franklin, and Franklin was asked about the rumors during his weekly press conference.
As you can see below, Franklin never flat-out denies the USC rumors, saying cliche phrases like “It’s that time of year” and “We’re focused on Maryland” and others:
James Franklin was asked about rumors connecting him to another head coaching job.

“First of all, I guess it’s that time of year, where all this stuff happens,” he says. “It’s the crazy, mad time of year where things like this happen. You guys know, like always, that we’re focused on Maryland completely, 100 percent. I don’t even think it’s fair or right to be talking about that job from everything I understand about it. We’re completely focused on Maryland.”
Considering Penn State is a better program at the moment, Franklin probably should have mentioned that in his answer if he was trying to squash any rumors.
