Mississippi State coach Joe Moorhead was born in Pittsburgh and has spent most of his life in the northeast, so his first year in Starkville has been a crash course in all things SEC.
On Thanksgiving night, though, he’ll face his toughest challenge yet — the Egg Bowl against Ole Miss.
The first-year Mississippi State coach joined “The Paul Finebaum Show” on Tuesday and discussed how he’s preparing for the intense rivalry game:

“Certainly, it’s different strokes for different folks,” he says. “Coaches have their own unique ways of motivating teams. I don’t think I could talk to our guys about playing against the standard instead of the opponent and then coming into the game against Ole Miss saying we need to do this better than in the past. I don’t think any sort of inflammatory rhetoric from me is going to affect the outcome of the game. I could throw a chair off the wall, I could put a fist through the chalkboard and give a Knute Rockne speech, but about a series or two into the game, that’s going to wear off and we’re going to fall back on our preparation. The team that executes and plays with more effort is going to win it.”
Moorhead will learn quickly how intense the rivalry game is, so we’ll see how the Bulldogs play coming out of the gates.
