When the 2018 MLB Draft begins on Monday, RHP Casey Mize of the Auburn Tigers is expected to be the No. 1 overall pick.

However, Florida RHP Brady Singer is also expected to be a top-10 pick, perhaps moving into the top five.

Singer has a big-time fan in MLB Hall of Famer Pedro Martinez. In the video below, Martinez says he thinks the Florida hurler is the safest bet to find success in the big leagues:

“I think this is the safest bet in the draft,” he said. “This kid is strong, he’s got two big-league pitches ready already — the fastball’s a power fastball, the curveball is there. There’s very little you have to work with him (on). Not only that, his demeanor on the mound, I think it’s close to the big-league demeanor that you need.”

However, should Singer not succeed as a starter, Martinez said he has the sort of stuff that can translate to the back end of the bullpen, if need be.

“I think he can be a closer in the future if he doesn’t pan out as a starter,” he added.

The first round of the draft will be aired on the MLB Network on Monday.
