The Auburn Tigers played No. 1 Alabama well, holding a lead in the first half and trailing only 17-14 at halftime, but as they often do, the Crimson Tide pulled away in the second half.

The Iron Bowl ended with a score of 52-21, sending the Tide to a perfect 12-0 regular season and dropping the Tigers to a disappointing 7-5.

After the game, coach Gus Malzahn credited the Tide for being a good team, but said he thought the Tigers could pull off the road victory (via 247Sports):

“Give Alabama credit. Theyโ€™re a very good team, very explosive on offense and solid on defense,” he said. “Good defense, too. But weโ€™re disappointed. We really thought we had a chance to come in here and win. Our goal was to get to the fourth quarter and we didnโ€™t get it done.”

Both of these teams are now bowl-bound, though the Tide will be playing in the SEC title game next weekend first.

Big changes could be coming this offseason at Auburn, but Malzahn isn’t ready to discuss those just yet.
