Kentucky has risen to the top of the SEC standings and a major reason is the play of star linebacker Sam Greene. The senior has been particularly effective in conference play, that’s what made it disappointing when he went down with a left knee injury in the road win at Oklahoma on Oct. 17.
Despite Greene being out, Kentucky extended its winning streak to 6 with a 34-17 victory vs. visiting Vanderbilt. However, the Wildcats could be getting Greene back soon based on a recent update by head coach Will Stein.
During his weekly radio show, a caller asked about the status of Greene. Stein responded with a positive outlook for Greene potentially returning after this week’s bye when Kentucky heads to Tennessee on Nov. 7.
“Sam’s getting better every day,” Stein said. “We’re expecting him back. He’s a ball player. I mean, he’s such a great guy. He’s one of the captains of our team, so we’re hoping to get him back, full-go, by this next game.”
The 6-foot-2, 251-pound Greene has recorded 12 solo tackles, 1.5 sacks, 2 forced fumbles, and an interception this season. He’s in his second season with Kentucky after spending his first 2 years at USC.
