Kentucky football fans hoping to catch a televised glimpse Saturday of their new-look Wildcats under coach Will Stein were disappointed – as UK’s spring game was not broadcast but instead only able to be witnessed in person at Kroger Field.
After the scrimmage to conclude Kentucky’s spring session, Stein was asked about why Saturday’s workout wasn’t made available via broadcast.
“You never know who is in the stands. We are close (in proximity) to a lot of (programs),” Stein said. “That’s just a fact. We huddled a lot, we hid our signals, we didn’t do any special teams.
“Because, I mean, shoot, you can go on YouTube and look up spring football games around the country watch what spring ball look like on other schools. … That’s why we wanted to keep it really simple. The playbook was minimal on both offense and defense.”

Stein takes over Kentucky’s program after Mark Stoops was let go following a 13-year run in Lexington. It is Stein’s first head coaching job, as he served as offensive coordinator for three seasons in Oregon before landing the UK job.
Kentucky (5-7 overall, 2-6 SEC in 2025) opens Stein’s first season Sept. 5 at home against Youngstown State before beginning conference play Sept. 12 at home against Alabama.
