Will Wade discusses roster building approach for second stint at LSU

LSU fans have seen just one player publicly announce his commitment to the Tigers for next season: former Kentucky Wildcat Mo Dioubate.
But that may not truly be the case.
Indeed, Tigers head coach Will Wade didn’t seem too worried about next season’s roster construction while speaking with CBS Sports’ Jon Rothstein on Tuesday, though. When asked about how Wade’s approach has changed this season compared to last season at NC State, Wade had the following to say:
“I’m gonna lean a little heavier on the international route,” Wade said. “This is the last year a lot of kids over there are going to be eligible, because of the clock issues… we’re gonna certainly get some of the best guys we can from the transfer portal, we’ve gotten a couple already.”
“One thing that we did last year that I made a mistake on, we basically paid 11 guys. We went out got 11 guys and had a lot of depth. Depth’s really important for practice, it’s not as important for games when you’re only playing 7 or 8 guys, 9 max, so we had some dead money on the roster. We’re really gonna pay 7 or 8 guys at LSU this year… we want to put our resources into those main guys.”
It sounds like LSU’s roster is taking shape behind the scenes. He also told Rothstein during their 30-minute interview — his first interview as back as LSU’s head coach — that the Tigers have “7 or 8 guys” committed at this point in the offseason.
