Zach Arnett joked about his priorities ahead National Signing Day on Wednesday, as he put off a meeting with new athletics director Zac Selmon.

“You don’t get to the quarterback quite as well as this recruit we’re going to see, so we’re going to visit him first,” Arnett recalled to reporters, but added that he expects to be able to sit down with Selmon soon.

One of the main headlines from Wednesday was that the Bulldogs landed a big recruit in pass rusher Jonathan Davis, and since then, Arnett said he’s heard sentiments like, “Man, you beat some big-time programs out for Jonathan Davis.” His response: “Well, we’re a big-time program too,” and added, “This is D-line U.”

Looking ahead to the season, Arnett said Mississippi State’s offense in the passing game will “heavily mirror” what it did for the past 3 years under Mike Leach. To call it a “drastic change,” Arnett said, would be “foolish.” Conceptually what we are going to do in the passing game will not be different from previous years, Arnett said, and added it would be “stupid” to change when you have had success like MSU did.
