Playing against her former team, Mia Williams lifted Texas Tech to an upset victory in Game 1 of the Gainesville Super Regional. The No. 11 seed Red Raiders topped No. 6 Florida 10-8 in a wild game that saw the Gators battle back from a 6-run deficit only for Texas Tech to take the lead once more in its final at-bat.
It was an 8-8 game in the top of the 7th inning when Williams gave the lead back to Texas Tech with a 2-run home run.

For Williams, the homer resulted in her second and third RBIs of the game. She also had an RBI double in the 4th inning, a 3-run frame for the Red Raiders.
Florida broke the scoring ice in the bottom of the 1st inning. Texas Tech, though, scored the next 7 runs. After scoring 3 in the 4th, the Red Raiders added 4 more in the 5th inning to open up a 7-1 advantage and threaten to potentially run-rule the Super Regional hosts on their home field.
The Gators battled back in epic fashion. After a 2-out error extended the inning, Ava Brown hit a 2-run homer to make it a 7-3 game. Townsen Thomas followed with a solo homer on the next pitch, making it 7-4.
The Red Raiders added a run in the top of the 6th. The Gators, though, showed they had another rally in them. M Walker led off the inning with a solo shot, to cut it to 8-5. When Brown came up to bat again, she homered for the second time. Her 3-run homer tied things up 8-8.
The loss went to Katelynn Oxley, who allowed 3 earned runs in 1.1 innings of relief. Florida starter Keagan Rothrock pitched 4 innings, allowing 3 unearned runs on 5 hits and 2 walks.
Mia Williams, the daughter of former Florida basketball star Jason Williams, began her career at UF. She entered the transfer portal following the 2025 season and joined Texas Tech.
The Red Raiders can punch their ticket to Oklahoma City with a win on Saturday. The Gators will need to win Games 2 and 3 to make the Women’s College World Series.
