The Milwaukee Brewers are the 2026 world champions. The Brewers locked up the World Series on Wednesday night in St. Petersburg, capturing Game 5 of the World Series against the Tampa Bay Rays for a 4-1 series win.
Two former players from current SEC schools were on the Brewers’ World Series roster. Former Texas infielder David Hamilton and former Mississippi State pitcher Brandon Woodruff were on Milwaukee’s 26-man roster for the World Series.
Hamilton played at Texas 2017-19 before the Longhorns were members of the SEC. The Brewers selected Hamilton in the 2019 MLB Draft but he made his MLB debut with the Boston Red Sox in 2023. He was traded back to the Brewers in 2026.
In the 5 game series, Hamilton posted a .250 batting average with 4 hits, including a home run, 4 RBIs and 2 runs scored.

A Tupelo native, Woodruff played for Mississippi State from 2012-14. A two-time All-Star, Woodruff has spent the entirety of his professional career with the Brewers, who selected him in the 2014 MLB Draft.
Woodruff had been out since July and was not on the Brewers’ postseason roster for the Division round or the League Championship Series. But he returned for the World Series and pitched in the 9th inning of Game 3.
Brandon Woodruff was supposed to be out for the season. He last pitched on July 4th. Now the longest tenured Brewer is pitching the 9th inning in Game 3 of the World Series https://t.co/4vTYBnSwUn

It’s the first World Series in Brewers franchise history. Milwaukee went 103-59 in the regular season and then 11-2 in the postseason.
