Austin Reaves is staying in Los Angeles. The former Oklahoma star signed a new 4-year deal that will pay him $185 million, paid out as $46.2 million per year. According to a report from Shams Charania, Reaves declined his $14.9 million player option to return to the Lakers.
Reaves just finished his 5th season in the NBA after he went undrafted in 2021, eventually signing with the Lakers. In that time Reaves has developed himself into one of the best scorers in the league, and he’s getting paid like it with this new contract.

Reaves was Los Angeles’s 2nd leading scorer last season behind only Luka Doncic. He averaged 23.3 points per game in the regular season and 20 points per game in the playoffs, both highs in season averages across Reaves’ career. Reaves’ best basketball is very likely still in front of him, which is why LA was willing to make the commitment.
The Lakers have a lot to address this offseason. LeBron James’ future is uncertain as an unrestricted free agent, and the Lakers still have several additions to make with around $50 million left to build around Reaves and Doncic.
