The NBA world was hit with some major news on Wednesday when longtime Inside the NBA host and broadcasting legend Ernie Johnson announced that this season will be his last with the iconic program.

Johnson shared the news on his personal X account, saying that the decision to step away at the end of the season was entirely his own. After 37 years in the as the leading voice on one of the most iconic sports programs in history, Johnson reflected on his legendary career.

Johnson joined the iconic NBA broadcast during its inaugural season in 1990 and has gone on to become one of the league’s most recognizable voices. Over nearly four decades, he has helped shape Inside the NBA alongside some of the biggest names in the game.

Former NBA star Kenny Smith joined the show in 1998, followed by Hall of Famer Charles Barkley in 2000 and NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal in 2011. Together, they built one of the most celebrated sports talk show panels in broadcasting history.

Throughout their run, Johnson and the Inside the NBA crew earned 21 Emmy Awards, while Johnson himself earned six individual honors as Sportscaster of the Year. In 2023, Johnson was inducted into the Sportscaster Hall of Fame, marking the culminating moment in his legendary career.
