Hollywood couldn’t have scripted a better debut for new Laker Walker Kessler. By the end, the former Auburn center joined legendary company.

Kessler scored 26 points on an eye-popping 12-of-12 shooting performance along with 9 rebounds in the Los Angeles Lakers’ 127-105 season-opening win vs. the Golden State Warriors.

The 7-foot-2 Kessler punished the Warriors in the paint with an astounding 10 dunks, the most by any Laker since Shaquille O’Neal in 2003. Wilt Chamberlain (14-of-14 in March 1969) is the only Laker that has recorded more shots without a miss in a game.

“It was awesome,” Kessler said via The Athletic. “Got the win, which is the most important thing. I definitely was a little nervous going into the game. But just so thankful and so grateful for how it went. That’s all I got to say about it.”

As a member of the Utah Jazz, Kessler went 7-for-7 in last season’s opener. In fact, he’s 34-of-36 in season openers during his NBA career.

Kessler underwent season-ending surgery on his shoulder 4 games after last season’s opener. Now that he’s healthy again, Kessler clearly is motivated to be the next great big man for the Lakers and could pair extremely well with star Luka Doncic.
