Anthony Richardson will be inactive on Sunday for the Indianapolis Colts’ Week 6 home matchup against the Arizona Cardinals after being injured during pre-game warmups.

The former Florida standout quarterback suffered an eye injury in the leadup to the 1 p.m. ET kickoff, according to a report by ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Sunday morning. Schefter also reported that former Duke and Notre Dame quarterback Riley Leonard would instead be the backup quarterback for Indianapolis behind starter Daniel Jones.

Richardson has barely seen the field this season as Jones has flourished as the starter for the 4-1 Colts. The quarterback who played for the Gators from 2020-22 made brief appearances for Indianapolis during a Week 3 victory at Tennessee and last week’s home win over Las Vegas.

In those 2 games, Richardson has completed all of 1 pass in 2 attempts for 9 yards. He was the 4th overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft by the Colts but hasn’t been able to stay healthy during his 3-season run in Indianapolis, with Sunday’s pregame injury another example of that.

Now, Richardson won’t even have a chance to play on Sunday should Jones get injured, with Richardson being relegated to inactive status and Leonard sliding into the backup role.
