Brian Kelly roasted over NFL Draft slides for Garrett Nussmeier, Harold Perkins
Brian Kelly was a favorite whipping boy for LSU fans and rival SEC fans alike during his time in Baton Rouge, and just because Kelly has been replaced by Lane Kiffin at LSU doesn’t mean he’s getting a free pass for what’s going down at this weekend’s NFL Draft.
Going down as in some of the high-profile players’ draft stocks that he had at LSU, specifically the stocks of oft-injured quarterback Garrett Nussmeier and linebacker Harold Perkins. At points during their college careers, Nussmeier and Perkins were destined to be very high draft picks, like maybe first-round picks.

But whether because of injury, general ineffectiveness or just maybe the effects of Brian Kelly, Nussmeier and Perkins slid right through the first 2 days of the draft and as the back end of Day 3 unfolded on Saturday, neither player had been chosen by an NFL team. That finally changed right at the end of Round 6, when the Atlanta Falcons took Perkins off the board at long last, selecting him with the 215th overall pick. He was still there though until the second-to-last pick of the 6th round, which would’ve been hard to believe not too long ago.
As for Nussmeier, he was still on the board entering the 7th and final round of the draft on Saturday, and the social media mavens were taking note of the insane drop of both players. They took Kelly to task for this fact, and here is a sampling of their posts:
