Former Alabama DT will miss remainder of NFL season, per HC

Defensive tackle Da’Shawn Hand inked a one-year, $3 million dollar contract with the Atlanta Falcons this offseason. The veteran defensive tackle was set to provide depth for new head coach Kevin Stefanski. Unfortunately, he’ll now be on the mend for the entire 2026 campaign.
According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Hand tore his quad on Sunday against the Pittsburgh Steelers. The former Alabama defensive lineman played only seven snaps prior to suffering his injury, and sought additional opinions before committing to surgery.
Hand, a 2018 fourth-round pick (No. 118) of the Detroit Lions, was entering his ninth NFL season. The Falcons are his fifth team, joining the Lions, Tennessee Titans, Miami Dolphins and Los Angeles Chargers. He has recorded 131 tackles and 6.5 sacks in his career.
Before reaching the professional ranks, Hand spent four years in Tuscaloosa with the Crimson Tide. He contributed to two national championship-winning teams (2015, 2017) during his time there. The Philadelphia native tallied a combined nine tackles and three tackles for loss in Alabama’s 2015 CFP title win and 2017 CFP semifinal triumph, both of which came against the Clemson Tigers.
Atlanta, following its 20-13 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers, hosts the Carolina Panthers in Week 2.
