Former Tennessee QB Joe Milton named Week 9 starter for Philadelphia Eagles
The Philadelphia Eagles’ 2026 campaign has imploded. Super Bowl champion Jalen Hurts is out for the year with blood clots, DeVonta Smith and Saquon Barkley are out every other week and their defense is suffering because of the offense’s ineptitude.
At 2-6, Philly is likely to be turning the page to 2027 before making a rousing comeback this season. For this reason, they’re seeing if they have a long-term backup for Hurts on their roster. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Eagles are starting former Tennessee quarterback Joe Milton in Week 9 vs. the New York Giants.
Milton, a sixth-round pick (No. 193 overall) by the New England Patriots in the 2024 NFL Draft, has been shuttled around the league in his brief career. His draft slot originally belonged to the Jacksonville Jaguars, who traded the selection to New England for Mac Jones. The Patriots sent him to the Dallas Cowboys before the 2025 NFL Draft after a strong performance in their 2024 season finale. That day, he completed 75.9% of his passes (22/29) for 241 yards and a touchdown in a 23-16 victory over the Buffalo Bills.
Despite playing the bulk of that aforementioned contest, Sunday’s game will be Milton’s first NFL start. The Eagles and Giants kick off at 1:00 p.m. ET.
