The timeline of Jalen Hurts’ ailments has taken a drastic turn. The Philadelphia Eagles quarterback went from missing Week 6, without expected placement on injured reserve, to being put on IR in less than 24 hours. Now, he will not return to football until 2027.

The Philadelphia Eagles and Nicole Lynn, Hurts’ agent, announced that the former Alabama and Oklahoma quarterback will miss the remainder of the 2026 season. The Super Bowl LIX MVP was diagnosed with a blood clot in his leg ahead of the Eagles’ Week 5 game vs. the Jacksonville Jaguars in London. Following initial treatment and further medical analysis, doctors uncovered multiple blood clots in Hurts’ lungs, changing the tune of the entire conversation around Hurts’ health.

“Over the last few days, Jalen Hurts has received comprehensive medical evaluations by physician experts… after further testing and monitoring, the current diagnosis is a deep vein thrombosis as well as bilateral pulmonari emboli,” the statement read. “He is clinically stable and has no significant functional limitations.”

“Jalen’s prognosis is very good. And we expect a full recovery,” it continued. “We anticipate that he will have the opportunity to resume contact football activities when off blood thinners.”

Hurts was in the hospital until 4:00 a.m. the night prior to/the morning of Philly’s meeting with Jacksonville, per Rapoport. According to Tom Pelissero of The Ringer, Hurts stayed awake for roughly 36 hours as a precaution to make the start against the Jaguars.

Hurts’ blood clots stem from getting cleated in the calf vs. the Los Angeles Rams in Week 4. Rapoport reports the clots being “provoked” in that incident make them “a solvable issue with treatment.”

Philadelphia (2-4) will start Tanner McKee in Week 7 Monday Night Football against the Dallas Cowboys (2-4).
