Just when Los Angeles Chargers fans thought their team was in real trouble of losing on the road to the Miami Dolphins, the Chargers dialed up former Georgia wide receiver Ladd McConkey.
The second-year pro, in the middle of enjoying an already-solid afternoon, hauled in this short pass from quarterback Justin Herbert and did the rest with his legs.
The 42-yard gain allowed the Chargers to set up the eventual game-winning 33-yard field goal by Cameron Dicker to upend the Dolphins 29-27. The catch was McConkey’s seventh of the afternoon and gave him 100 receiving yards for the first time in 2025.
McConkey, a second-round pick (34th overall) by Los Angeles in the 2024 NFL Draft, had a stellar rookie season – recording 112 receptions for 1,149 yards and 7 touchdowns. So far in 2025, McConkey has 21 receptions on 34 targets for 213 yards and 1 touchdown.
McConkey was Herbert’s favorite target against Miami, as the quarterback went 29-of-38 for 264 yards and 2 touchdowns. The Chargers improved to 4-2 with the victory and play host to the Indianapolis Colts next Sunday. Miami is now 1-5 and plays at the Atlanta Falcons next Sunday.
