Los Angeles Chargers wide receiver Ladd McConkey was forced to exit Sunday’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs after suffering a concussion.

The former Georgia star was ruled out, with the team releasing a statement during the first half of Sunday’s game in Kansas City.

A few minutes earlier, the Chargers posted on social media that McConkey was “being evaluated for a head injury.”

McConkey, who played at Georgia from 2020-23 and was a big part of the Bulldogs’ back-to-back national championship teams in 2021 and 2022, suffered the concussion on this play:

The Georgia native who stayed in state to star for the Dawgs on those stellar teams in Athens was drafted by the Chargers in the second round in 2024. The former second-team All-SEC selection in 2022 had 1 catch for 17 yards on Sunday, but it was that 1 catch that McConkey was injured on during the first half against the Chiefs.

McConkey came into Sunday’s game with 12 catches for 183 yards and 1 touchdown this season.

He left a huge mark at Georgia during his years there, finishing his career with 119 catches for 1,687 yards and 14 touchdowns. McConkey’s biggest season at Georgia came in 2022, when he piled up 58 catches for 762 yards and 7 TDs.

McConkey has been productive so far in his career with the Chargers, finishing with 82 and 66 catches, respectively, during the 2024 and 2025 seasons. He had a combined 13 touchdowns during his first 2 years, but all thoughts on Sunday were about his condition after he suffered the concussion in Kansas City.
