The NFL news cycle was rocked on Tuesday when reports emerged that Tennessee Titans defensive lineman Jordan Elliot had been released following a serious incident at the team’s practice facility on October 15th.
According to multiple sources, Elliot got into a heated altercation with offensive tackle JC Latham, leading to the 7th-year veteran being kicked out of practice. Following this, he reportedly stormed out of the facility and retrieved a gun from his car, but was talked down by defensive tackle John Franklin-Meyers before things escalated any further.
When reporters asked about the incident Wednesday afternoon, Titans head coach Robert Saleh defended Elliot, saying he “had a terrible lapse in judgment” and that the incident was not a “criminal act.”
“My message to 31 other teams: If you need a hell of a run-stopping D-tackle that can help on a playoff run, give me a call,” Saleh said. “I’ll tell you everything you need to know about him. He’s a good man. Had a terrible lapse in judgment. I recognize it as a call for help. Not a criminal act.”
Elliot was a third-round draft selection by the Cleveland Browns in 2020 out of Missouri and spent 4 seasons with the Browns before joining the San Francison 49ers from 2024 to 2025. He made the move to Tennessee this past offseason after inking a 2-year, $8 million deal, serving as a key piece of their defensive rotation up front prior to his release.
It’s clear from this interview that Saleh still has a ton of respect for Elliot despite the way things ended for him in Tennessee, and is willing to do whatever he can to help the seasoned defensive lineman find a new home in the NFL.
