Former Auburn golfer Jackson Koivun has historic round at PGA event, takes lead into final day

Former Auburn star golfer Jackson Koivun had a day to remember on Saturday at the 3M Open.
Koivun shot 10-under-par, giving him a score of -20 for the tournament and a comfortable 3-shot lead after 54 holes. The 21-year-old set the back-nine scoring record at the 3M Open according to the PGA Tour, firing off a score of 8-under on the back-nine.
He shot a 61 on Saturday, putting him in position to potentially win his first PGA Tour event on Sunday.

Koivun has long been viewed as a potential star on the PGA Tour. He turned pro earlier this year following a dominant collegiate career with Auburn that included SEC Player of the Year honors in 2024, 2025 and 2026. He also won the Ben Hogan Award and the Jack Nicklaus Award twice.
Koivun participated in the US Open earlier this year as an amateur. He finished tied for 23rd place and shared low-am honors with Oklahoma golfer Ryder Cowan.
Koivun will tee off in the final group on Sunday at the 3M Open. World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler is among the golfers who will be chasing Koivun in the final round. Scheffler is currently tied for 9th place and is 6 strokes off of Koivun’s pace entering Sunday.
