Georgia Attorney General tells Greg Sankey to ‘take all measures available’ if LSU plays ex-pros

One of the most drama-filled and mind-boggling college football offseasons in history is coming to a merciful end this weekend, but on the eve of Week 1’s kickoff, the SEC is still sorting through madness.
With the league having taken drastic actions to prohibit LSU from fielding former professional players and subsequently being legally challenged, other voices are speaking out.

And some of those individuals occupy high-ranking positions, such as Georgia Attorney Chris Carr. The AG’s office sent a letter to SEC commissioner Greg Sankey on Wednesday, and it laid out Carr’s feeling on LSU and the pro-to-college situation as a whole according to reporting from ESPN’s Pete Thamel.
College athletics are for college athletes only, and we are grateful the SEC has taken swift action to maintain that standard,” Carr wrote in the letter, a copy of which was obtained by ESPN. “However, the rules cannot be ignored or twisted to benefit one coach, one institution, or one program, and we refuse to stand by while that happens.
Thus, Carr advised Sankey to “take all measures available” when it comes to punishing the Bayou Bengals for fielding former pros.
Conference members have the freedom to associate with institutions committed to following NCAA and Conference rules,” Carr wrote. “No institution should be allowed to ignore the obligations of Conference membership while continuing to receive the benefits of membership.
LSU will open its 2026 campaign under the primetime lights of Death Valley on Saturday, with Clemson coming to town for a return trip.
