Kalen DeBoer and the Alabama Crimson Tide are playing some of the best football in the country right now, but they have a huge game looming against Georgia in Week 6. Like every team across the country, the Crimson Tide are dealing with some injuries. While talking to reporters on Monday, DeBoer provided updates on Jayvin James, as well as a couple other players on the team.
“Jayvin, we’re optimistic that he can return this week,” DeBoer said. “We’ll see as the week goes on.”
James is the starting right tackle, and he left the game against South Carolina two weeks ago. Having him potentially come back against Georgia would be a major boon because the Bulldogs have as good of defensive line as there is in college football.
Desmond Umeozulu and Justin Hill are two guys who can get after the quarterback, but it doesn’t sound like either of them will be back for the matchup against the Bulldogs. Umeozulu is closer than Hill, but DeBoer said they are still a ways from being able to return.
One of the biggest injuries for the Crimson Tide happened in the offseason with five-star cornerback Jorden Edmonds. He was looked at as a guy who would contribute immediately, but he has been unable to recover from breaking his foot in August. DeBoer is hopeful that he will return, but said he isn’t close yet to being healthy
Despite all these injuries, the Crimson Tide look like a team that is capable of winning the College Football Playoff, but the performance against Georgia will go a long way in showing how good they really are.
