Longtime ESPN host Michael Wilbon, perhaps best known for his daily role on Pardon the Interruption, is taking a medical leave-of-absence from his role on PTI and ESPN at-large.

Wilbon began the statement by saying he isn’t retiring but instead is taking time to focus on his health.

“Probably, I should have listened to medical professionals and people closest to me, yep Korneiser included, who saw worrisome signs in recent years that suggested I take time away earlier,” Wilbon wrote. “But I didn’t.”

Here’s Wilbon’s full statement:

Wilbon has hosted PTI alongside Tony Kornheiser since October of 2021. He’s also well-regarded as an NBA analyst on ESPN and previously had an illustrious career as a sports columnist with the Washington Post.

ESPN chairman Jimmy Pitaro also released a statement of support regarding Wilbon’s leave.

“Michael and his family have ESPN’s full support as he takes time away to focus on his health and well-being,” Pitaro’s statement reads in-part.
