Mississippi State softball is having a special season, as the Bulldogs entered the first of 2 Friday games against No. 1 Texas with a record of 29-6, and 6-1 in SEC play. Mississippi State got the double-header off to a great start, as the Bulldogs beat the Longhorns 4-3 in dramatic walk-off fashion.
The game was tied at 3 in the bottom of the 7th, with Abby Richardson on 1st base as a pinch-runner. The Bulldogs also had a pinch-hitter at the plate with Paige Ernstes inserted to bat in the crucial moment.
Facing a 2-2 count, Ernstes roped a shot down the left field line, just barely keeping the ball in play. Richardson was subbed in for her speed, and she was able to score from first without a throw being made.
Raelin Chaffin went the full 7 innings to get the win, finishing with 6 strikeouts while only giving up 4 hits. Leadoff hitter Sierra Sacco went 2-for-3 from the plate to give the Bulldogs a spark on offense.
The Longhorns are now 32-3 on the season. The 2 teams will be in action again on Friday night, as they play the second game of the day-night doubleheader. They will be off on Saturday before finishing the series up on Sunday.
