Ty Simpson agrees to rookie contract with Los Angeles Rams

Former Alabama quarterback Ty Simpson became the final 2026 first-round draft pick to sign their rookie deal on Saturday, inking his 4-year contract that will be worth $25.4 million with a fifth-year option. In addition, Simpson received a signing bonus of $14.94 million.
Now, only Patriots second-round pick Gabe Jacas, who played for Illinois last season, has not signed his rookie contract.
Simpson was surprisingly taken by the Los Angeles Rams No. 13 overall in the 2026 NFL Draft and will compete with former Georgia quarterback Stetson Bennett for the backup job to Matthew Stafford. Obviously, Simpson is the favorite to win this job and is set to lead the Rams offense when Stafford (38) retires.
Simpson led Alabama to a 11-4 record, falling to Florida State early but finishing the season strong enough to crack the College Football Playoff. Across his first year as a starter, Simpson threw 305 completions for 3,567 passing yards and 28 touchdowns to just 5 interceptions.
Now, Alabama is set to turn to one of Austin Mack or Keelon Russell for Week 1’s matchup against East Carolina. Head coach Kalen DeBoer refused to name a starter, as expected, at SEC Media Days this past week.
