The Houston Texans didn’t make a lot of moves during free agency but they did make a significant move on defense by letting go of former Florida Gators defensive back Vernon Hargreaves.

Hargreaves was in the final year of his contract, so it may not have been too surprising that he was cut by the Texans.

Hargreaves was picked up by the Texans in 2019 after he was waived by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

He was picked 11th overall in the 2016 draft by the Bucs. While at Florida, he was a 2-time All-American and 3-time first-team All-SEC player.

Hargreaves former teammate Justin Reid talked about losing him to the Houston Chronicle via Pro Football Talk.

“Vernon’s a good friend of mine. I hate to see him go. He’s going to have an opportunity to play somewhere. He’s a good player. But we’re still trying to figure it out on the back end, find the best combination to eliminate those missed tackles, stop the big plays and find a way to play a tighter defense.”

Hargreaves most likely won’t be without a team for long.
