Notre Dame center Pat Coogan is expected to enter the transfer portal, according to a report.

That’s per On3’s Pete Nakos, who notes that Coogan served as Notre Dame’s starting center for much of the 2024 season. Coogan is the third key Notre Dame offensive lineman to enter the portal this week, joining Sam Pendleton and Rocco Spindler.

Coogan is a significant loss for Notre Dame from multiple angles. For one, he’s an experienced center who played very well this season for the Fighting Irish. Per PFF, Coogan played 814 snaps this season and was the team’s highest-graded pass blocker with a grade of 79.0 on the season.

Coogan was also a significant leader in Notre Dame’s locker room in 2024. He became known for passionate (and, at times, NSFW) pre-game speeches before every game. The Irish will certainly miss his leadership in 2025.

Despite Notre Dame’s 3 OL transfer losses so far, the Irish appear to still be in good shape on the offensive line for the foreseeable future. At center, Ashton Craig is expected to return in 2025 after he missed most of the season with a knee injury. Charles Jagusah, Anthonie Knapp and Aamil Wagner are all set to return as well.

Notre Dame players have a 5-day window to enter the transfer portal following the National Championship.
