Notre Dame is pushing hard for Cal and Stanford to join the ACC, according to a new report from a Clemson insider.

Larry Williams of Tigers Illustrated reported that “as a full voting member of the ACC, (Notre Dame is) pushing hard for the additions of Stanford and Cal.”

The Pac-12 is down to 4 schools committed to the conference beyond the upcoming academic year. This will be the last season in the Pac-12 for USC, UCLA, Oregon and Washington, which are all headed for the B1G in 2024. Arizona, Arizona State, Colorado and Utah will join the Big 12 next year. That leaves Oregon State, Washington State, Cal and Stanford in the Pac-12 for the 2024 football season.

Earlier this week, it was reported that the ACC is beginning the vetting process regarding some potential additions from the remaining Pac-12 teams. ACC athletics directors and ACC presidents and chancellors were expected to have meetings in recent days about this issue.

The Associated Press also reported that the ACC’s conversations also include the possibility of adding SMU, the Dallas school currently in the American Athletic Conference.
