Ole Miss has one of the deepest teams in the country from top to bottom but there is some uncertainty on the depth chart at the most important position on the field.

The Rebels have yet to definitively name a starting quarterback between the three that are competing in fall camp –Chad Kelly, Ryan Buchanan and DeVante Kincade.

But whichever passer prevails will have a ton of weapons to get the ball to and a defense that is excellent at getting the ball back.

The defense returns a lot of its standouts from last year’s group but it does have to replace the production of All-SEC defensive backs Senquez Golson and Cody Prewitt. The Rebels are also mixing it up on that side of the ball by moving former defensive end C.J. Johnson to the starting middle linebacker spot.

Here’s a glance at our projection for the post-fall camp two-deep:

OFFENSE (SPREAD MULTIPLE)

QB1: Chad Kelly
QB2: Ryan Buchanan/DeVante Kincade

As previously stated, there’s no solution to this quarterback riddle yet. All are talented and all bring different skills to the table. But Kelly’s raw talent and athleticism are the reasons why we have his as the frontrunner to this point. Buchanan is probably next in line to take the job.

RB1: Jaylen Walton
RB2: Jordan Wilkins

Walton and Wilkins will likely both see plenty of carries this season with the former receiving the lion’s share. Walton is a returning starter who can do it all in the backfield. He’s an excellent pass catcher who can be split out wide, and he’s not afraid to stand in there and block. Wilkins is a sophomore that the Rebels will want to prepare to take the reins after Walton graduates and he is a solid all-purpose back, although he lacks the explosion of his elder running mate.

X WR1: Laquon Treadwell
X WR2: Derrick Jones

Z WR1: Quincy Adeboyejo
Z WR2: Damore’ea Stringfellow

SLOT WR1: Cody Core
SLOT WR2: Markell Pack/Quintavious Burdette

TE1: Evan Engram
TE2: Jeremy Liggins

The Ole Miss receiving corps is shaping up to be something special this season. There’s so much talent across the board here that Hugh Freeze probably feels he can’t go wrong with the decision he must make at quarterback. Treadwell and Engram could each be the first off the board for their positions in this year’s NFL draft. Treadwell is coming off a gruesome leg injury that he suffered against Auburn last season but has reportedly looked completely healthy and in great shape during fall camp. Stringfellow is the dark horse to watch here. He has been compared to Treadwell by Freeze and could bust onto the SEC scene this year.

LT1: Laremy Tunsil
LT2: Christian Morris

LG1: Aaron Morris
LG2: Daronte Bouldin/Javon Patterson

C1: Ben Still
C2: Robert Conyers

RG1: Justin Bell
RG2: Rod Taylor/Jordan Sims

RT1: Fahn Cooper
RT2: Sean Rawlings

It’s an offensive front that features the best left tackle in the nation but has several question marks beyond that. First, the health of Morris, who has been slow to heel from a torn ACL he suffered last season. His backup Taylor was expected to compete for the starting job but is currently sidelined with a shoulder injury. Taylor or Patterson could also eventually take over for Morris or Bell.

DEFENSE (4-3)

DE1: Marquis Haynes
DE2: John Youngblood

DT1: Robert Nkemdiche
DT2: Breeland Speaks/D.J. Jones

DT1: Isaac Gross
DT2: Woodrow Hamilton

DE1: Fadol Brown
DE2: Channing Ward

This is a group that will strike fear into the opposing offenses that line up across from it. Nkemdiche is perhaps the best defensive lineman in the country and all four starters will most likely be playing in the NFL one day.

OLB1: Denzel Nkemdiche
OLB2: DeMarquis Gates/Terry Caldwell

MLB1: C.J. Johnson
MLB2: Christian Russell/Temario Strong

Johnson is new to his position but has the skill set to excel in the middle of the defense. Nkemdiche is returning from a broken ankle that cut his season short last year. This is an underrated group of linebackers that could surpass expectations.

NICK: Tony Conner
NICK: A.J. Moore

CB1: Tee Shepard
CB2: Kendarius Webster/Carlos Davis

CB2: Tony Bridges
CB2:Kailo Moore

SS1: Mike Hilton
SS2: Chief Brown/C.J. Moore

FS1: Trae Elston
FS2: C.J. Hampton

The Rebels lost some talent in the secondary but still trot out an impressive group. Conner is a tenacious defender who can cover like a corner and lay a hit like a linebacker. Hilton is a seasoned vet that is great at playing the ball when it’s in the air and the tandem of Shepard and Bridges on the outsides is about as solid as they come in college football.
